Parismus is the international student association of Sorbonne University.

Bringing together 10 institutions that offer studies in literature, medicine, science, engineering, technology and management, our alliance fosters a global approach to teaching and research, promoting access to knowledge for all.

Alliance 4EU+

The 4EU+ Alliance

In a changing world, Sorbonne University has joined forces with six universities: Charles University in Prague, the University of Warsaw, Heidelberg University, the University of Milan, the University of Geneva and the University of Copenhagen to create the 4EU+ Alliance.

With an innovative model of the European university, seven large research-intensive universities are working together to respond to the educational and research challenges facing Europe today.

Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine teaches the 3 cycles of medical studies: from PASS (integrated into the faculty) to the 3rd cycle including DES, DESC, DU and DIU. The lessons are given mainly on two sites: Pitié-Salpêtrière and Saint-Antoine. The faculty also provides paramedical education: speech therapy, psychomotricity and orthoptics. The Saint-Antoine site includes a midwifery school.

Life Sciences

Covering fundamental, translational and clinical aspects of biology

Life is studied at its different molecular and cellular scales, from the organ to the individual. A wide variety of biological models are used, ranging from yeasts to invertebrates, algae, plants, mice and fish along with cellular models.

The experimental approaches that we use are multidisciplinary, ranging from the molecule to the study of behaviour in biology.

Approaches derived from physics, mathematics and computational sciences enable us to understand the physical and dynamic properties of biological systems through modelling. Synthetic biology is used, in this sense, to reconstruct living organisms, while innovative technologies are deployed in imaging, genomics, proteomics, biophysics and structural biology. The main biological processes underlying the functioning of living organisms are analysed through multiple lenses:

>> ageing and longevity,
>> photosynthesis and photoperception,
>> the development of organisms from meiosis to adult formation,
>> the development, physiology and plasticity of the nervous system,
>> the functioning of the immune system, cancerology, metabolism and other major physiological functions.
>> the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms that ensure the expression and maintenance of the integrity of the genome,

Our research units also conduct translational and clinical research in the field of cancer studies, immunity, metabolism and chronic diseases, psychiatric and neurological disorders, and age-related diseases, with the aim of putting scientific discoveries and therapeutic innovation at the service of tomorrow's medicine. This work is based, among other things, on technological platforms grouped into joint units of service with the purpose of providing a solid technical expertise and cutting edge equipments to the large scientific community. Besides, our teams benefit from the I-Bio innitiative aimed to promote the exploration of fundamental biological questions through the application of approaches and/or concepts from various scientific disciplines.
